We've upgraded our security slightly by installing proper SSL certificates and forcing HTTPS (SSL) on the Trident site and forums. You should now see an icon in your browser indicating that you are browsing Trident over a secure connection, this means that when you're using a potentially insecure network (e.g. a public hotspot) there's no chance of your password or other information being compromised by the operator of the network. Additionally, a proper Class 1 SSL certificate has been installed on our Mumble server, so you should no longer see warnings about invalid certificates when you first connect, and the server name is highlighted in green when connected to show that the SSL certificate has been validated. Hopefully this will make Mumble even more accessible to new users. See you all in-game!
So every time I visit our website, there should be a green padlock next to our URL (like paypal.com), right? :? Btw, good job as always, Jack
Actually, it's not exactly like on paypal.com. On some sites like paypal and banks, the padlock is green with the name of the company. This is an additional layer of security with a more extended and more expensive certificate where the owner has been verified (e.g. the green padlock "Paypal Inc." next to paypal.com means Paypal Inc. has been verified as being the owner of paypal.com). You will only see a gray padlock (firefox) or green padlock (without company) (chrome) here, only indicating that the communication between you and the server is secure, not whether the server belongs to Trident or the TR.
In firefox you get either that one or this one: The exclamation mark means that some things (e.g. posted images/signatures) on the page don't use a secure connection, but this is not a problem and unavoidable on a forum. If you are using IE and want to know what symbol is shown: stop using IE and get firefox or chrome... Firefox seems to block the youtube videos. Jack will have to change how they are embedded. In the meanwhile you could tell firefox to temporarily exclude the forum from being blocked. On pages with blocked content, a little shield will appear in front of the exclamation mark: You can click it and select to disable this feature on the current page. This is however very temporary and not a permanent solution.
I'm not getting it "all green" on chrome, but if I understand it right it's just telling me that when the site loads images from places like imgur they aren't secure.
Exactly, this is the equivalent of the exclamation mark in firefox. All your communication with the forum is still secure, they can only see (or potentionally alter) the unsecure external images (like from imgur) you are viewing.
noticed it yesterday, was going to post when I saw the thread. Thanks for making this a kickass forum, JackJack (and any contributors)
Try to remove it and add it again. I read about some people having problems being fixed by doing this. Alternately get a better phone... iPhone comes to mind
