Trident members, From today (13/06/2014) Trident will change the name of some of the in-game ranks in Planetside 2. The affected ranks are Trooper, Squad Leader and Platoon leader. Planetside Officer and Council will stay the same. The reason for this change is due to some misunderstanding that many new member have where they think you need to be squad leader rank to be a squad leader in game. As most of you know it is the other way around: If you lead squads you get promoted to squad leader rank, and ditto for the platoon leader rank. In addition to that the rank names we have had up until now have been pretty boring. Being promoted to squad leader after having lead many squads in the game perhaps doesn't feel as rewarding as it should. Leading squads and platoons in Planetside 2 is an important job, as you are both increasing the effectiveness of our military might, as well as providing a more fun gaming experience for our members. The Council wants to promote that, and reward players who do this. We have decided to take our new naming scheme from the Vanu battle ranks, and more specifically the Vanu battle rank names inspired by Ancient Roman military titles. In Planetside 2 we are a military force after all. Troopers will now bear the name Legionary, the capable foot soldiers of Trident. If you had the rank of squad leader you will now be known as a Centurion (Centurion helmet sold separately in the Depot ). Members that used to have Platoon leader rank will be named Praetor (Roman army commander). That being said everything else for the time being will remain the same. Those who hold the current ranks will keep them (with an awesome new name), and you still get promoted to the ranks by showing leadership initiative. TL;DR Rank name change: Trooper -> Legionary Squad Leader -> Centurion Platoon Leader -> Praetor -Trident Council
